Acquitted Murderer Charged with Attempted Murder
posted (December 2, 2019)
Last week Thursday, we reported on the shooting of 27-year-old Richard O'Neil, a resident of Ordonez Street in Belize City.

As we told you, he was in the St. Martin's area of Belize City last Wednesday night. Someone kidnapped him and took him to the Hattieville Boom Road, where his assailant or assailants shot him and left him there for dead. Fortunately, the cops were alerted in time, and rushed him to the KHMH, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police are reporting tonight that they've already arrested and charged one man for this crime. He's 22-year-old Elden Flowers, who was acquitted of murder only a few months ago.

Here's what police had to say about the swift arrest:

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero - Deputy Head, NCIB
"Reference the shooting of Richard O'Neil that occurred on the 27th day of November 2019, police have since arrested and charged Elden Flowers, 21-years-old, for the crime of attempted murder."

Reporter
"What exactly - do those two men have some sort of beef or a gang-related issue?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"We are not certain at this time. At some point, he was picked up and taken to that area on the Boom Road where he was shot."

Reporter
"Is there anything in your investigation that points to some sort of internal rivalry within a particular gang?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"We are investigating that at this point."

Reporter
"Are you able to say what led you to the detention of Mr. Elden?"

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"As part of the investigation, interviews were conducted, statements were recorded, and that led to the arrest of this person."

Elden Flowers, a construction worker of Flamboyant Street, was arraigned today before Magistrate Khadeem Palmer on the offense of attempted murder. Because of the nature of the offense, no plea was taken from him, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 22nd, 2020.

Flowers was acquitted in July of this year of the 2017 murder of Randolph Johnson.
