Another Burnt Drug Plane In The North
posted (December 6, 2019)
Early this morning, a drug plane landed in northern Belize. It was found burned and abandoned in Chan Chen - which is the northernmost village in the Corozal district.

Police found this on an unpaved landing strip a quarter of a mile north west of Chan Chen Village - which is very close to Mexico.

It appears to be another Hawker Sidley 125 - just like the one abandoned in Blue Creek in October. No cargo or passengers were found, but the drug runners did leave behind either a clue or a message for police. It's this, an extended banana clip, the kind that is used in assault rifles. This one was found with 34 live rounds. Police also found 11 small aluminum buckets, and 4 portable rechargeable led lights. These are commonly used lighting gear in illicit nighttime landings.

For a almost two months now - we haven't been hearing any reports of drug plane landings in Belize. And that's because of a concerted effort to maintain a presence and rapid response team in the north. But that team is in Blue Creek, and this plane landed more north, in what may have been a sort of blind spot for police.

We note that in June, police found 80 pounds of weed, close to two thousand live rounds for assault rifles, shotguns and pistols, as well as a high powered assault rifle, a shotgun, a riot rifle and two bulletproof vests stashed in Chan Chen.
