The Battle Over IDB Education Funding

Another piece of legislation that attracted opposing views is a 20-million-dollar loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.

The money is for their Education Quality Improvement Program or EQIP 2. It focuses on developing strong fundamentals in subject areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, which is commonly referred to as STEAM. They want to equip the next generation of Belizeans to be innovators and specialists in these different fields of study, instead of having to import outside talent.

Here's what the Senators had to say about this loan motion in today's debate on it:

At the end of today's Senate meeting, this loan motion, as well as Supplies Control Amendment Bill, the Firearms Amendment Bill, and the Hydro Maya Power Project Amendment Bill were all passed. That means that they are only awaiting the assent of the Governor-General to become law.
