Min Heredia Cool about Tourist Downturn
posted (December 6, 2019)
And, right now, Belize tourism may need more than just that shot in the arm. For the first time in many years, overnight tourism arrivals were down for an entire quarter.

That was the third quarter of this year when tourist arrivals were down resulting in a 6.2 percent fall in hotel as well as 13 fewer cruise ship calls during this period.

Could be a worrying trend, but today the Minister said it's not that bad in the regional context:

Hon. Manuel Heredia, Minister of Tourism
"It is a global trend, if you would look around the Caribbean and Central America and so, almost everybody had a slight, some, more drastic we are lucky in Belize that our percentage was small but overall at the end of the year we will still do a little better than we did last year. According to the World Tourism Organization if you do the same as you did the previous year we are doing good in this case we did a bit better. We wanted more but we are still satisfied with what we accomplished."
