Belize and Melchor Work together For Elito Puc Murder
posted (December 9, 2019)
And, keeping it out west, police say they are cooperating with their Guatemalan counterparts to solve the murder mystery of Benque Viejo resident Elito Puc. As we told you, the former schoolteacher was found dead last week close to the Guatemala border; he had been beheaded. Police told us they Guatemalans have a skull which was found on their side of the border:

ACP Joseph Myvett
"They observed the decapitated body of a Hispanic male with injuries and as well a rope was found on the body. Based on other items found on the body, the family members were called who identified some of those items. The body was then removed from the area after the scene was processed and the post-mortem was conducted. At this point in time, we have no leads as to what may have caused Mr. Puc's death or who were responsible for his death."

Reporter
"Investigators do believe that he was killed in Guatemala?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes."

Reporter
"How is it that the department is working along with their counterparts?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes, we are. I believe there is a meeting this morning. We have met several times with the Guatemalan authorities and there is a meeting ongoing at this moment."

Reporter
"I know that the decapitated head or at least the remains were found a couple day before. Have police been able to confirm if that was the victim's head?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"No, we have not but certainly we will request a DNA sample from the Guatemalan authorities in respect to what was found on their side of the border so that there can be a comparison to determine if that is indeed the head of Mr. Puc."
