Where’s Airstrip Caretaker?
posted (December 9, 2019)
And finally from the police tonight, they say they are looking for the caretaker of the airstrip in Chan Chen where a drug plane landed last week Friday morning.

The plane was found burned and abandoned on an unpaved landing strip a quarter of a mile north west of Chan Chen Village. It was another Hawker Sidley 125 - just like the one abandoned in Blue Creek in October.

Police say they have been digging for clues - but would only say so much:

ACP Joseph Myvett
"No one was found in the immediate area, the airstrip is a registered airstrip. The entire area was searched. We are aware that there was a caretaker to the airstrip and hangar and, however, he has not been found since that incident as well."

Reporter
"So, you're saying, he's missing?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Well, he has not been found. No one has reported him missing but he has not been found and several efforts have been made to try and locate him."

Reporter
"Who is the airstrip registered under?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"I am not going to say who the airstrip is registered under - other than to say it is a registered airstrip."

Reporter
"Can police track down that person and has police tried to track down that person?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"The person, we know who he is, who was the caretaker, but we have not been able to track him down."

Reporter
"In terms of the person, the airstrip was registered under?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes, we know who he is."

Reporter
"Which is not the caretaker?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yeah, it's not."

Reporter
"Have police tried to track down that person?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes, we have spoken to that person, the officers have spoken to that person - and he does not live nowhere in that area he lives in Corozal town."
