One Year Later, Anisha’s Family No Closer To Closure
posted (December 10, 2019)
23 year old Anisha Young went missing exactly a year ago - and despite several leads - tonight, her family is no closer to closure. They held a press conference just a short while ago led by their investigator Jose Uk Espat to say that all best efforts have amounted to naught:

Jose UK Espat, Family Representative
"Today I believe that we have reached to the legal or a dead end I terms of what can be done through the system; the forensic system, justice system, the police department - we have reached sadly an abrupt and unjust, unfortunate end to what can be done if given the fact that if we dont find anymore remains, there is nothing else we can do."

One of the major frustrations was when a DNA sample with tissue extracted from a scene on the old northern road came back inconclusive in May of 2019. The family pushed police for another test, and convinced them, but the family learned just today that things went awry.

He says that the family learned that the last DNA sample had been sent out but not to the specifications agreed upon:

Jose UK Espat, Family Representative
"The forensic lab went ahead without contacting the family or myself and confirming to us that they would now go ahead and take the sample and send it to some lab in Cayman Island and they took upon themselves to send that without a comparative sample, without the swab and they still went ahead and sent that to another lab after having agreed to all this, which I have explained and I am completely upset, disgusted by the sneaky actions and by the actions of the Belize National Forensic Lab."

We will try to follow up on this with police. The press conference finished close to 6:30.
