Can Police Contain Retaliation
posted (December 13, 2019)
We caught up with Commissioner of Police Chester Williams this evening and he told police are monitoring to try and contain any retaliation for Neal's murder.

Reporter
"Are you able to say at this point if there is anything connected to Mr. Neal's past that may have resulted in his murder?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well, I don't like to go into the past history of persons who are victims of murder, but I will advise you to go into your archives and you will see what you need to see there."

Reporter
"Is the police department closely monitoring that particular murder in terms of possible retaliation?"

Chester Williams
"Of course, we have to. Like you rightly said, you know of the person's past and more than likely there may be some who may want to retaliate on his behalf. And so yes, we are monitoring the situation in Roaring Creek very closely to be able to see what we can do to avert any retaliation"

Reporter
"Sir, are people out there cooperating with the police when it comes to these kinds of crimes committed?"

Chester Williams
"Well you know that's a difficult thing. People, for good reasons, are afraid at times to give statements to the police and we understand that and so we try to see how we can work around the human element of investigation and that's one of the reasons why I have been embarking so heavily on the issue of putting in place surveillance cameras in different parts of the city and we want to expand to the districts thereafter."
