Compol On The Tough Job Of Keeping City Safe
posted (December 13, 2019)
So, how will police address all these pre-holiday crimes that have been plaguing Belize City? Well, the Police Commissioner says that they have a strategy in place, but they need City residents to do their part to keep themselves safe.

Here's how he explained it to the press today:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We do realize that at this time of the year it is a festive time and people are preparing for the holidays and we have a responsibility to ensure their safety. So, we have our strategy in place to ensure that we make our citizens shop in a safe environment as we can. And so we try to advise people though that not just because the police are out there mean that you won't take your own security measures to avoid becoming the victim of crime. So, we advise you not to walk around with large quantities of cash. If you go to the ATM do not walk out with your cash in your hand and try to take someone with you. Do not park your vehicle in a dark area where you have to walk to your vehicle after shopping. Do not walk around with jewelries displayed. That again will attract persons to you. Do not park your vehicle with expensive items on the seat or visible, again, that will attract people to break into to your vehicle. These are things that you can do to help prevent you from becoming a victim of a crime."
