In Kenya, Belize Thanks ACP Countries for Support
posted (December 13, 2019)
Foreign Affairs Minister Wilfred Elrington was in Nairobi, Kenya for the 9th African, Caribbean Pacific Summit of the Heads of States and Government.

This summit, which took place on December 9th and 10th, was held under the theme, "A Transformed ACP Dedicated to Multilateralism". It was held to discuss issues such as climate change, ocean governance, and defense of multilateralism.

Belize thanked the ACP Group for its unwavering solidarity and support of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. You'll remember that over the last few years, the ACP group of nations has continuously expressed support for Belize when the Belize/Guatemala territorial dispute has had any sort of flare-ups, like the different Sarstoon River episodes. At its closing, the Summit adopted a declaration applauding Belize for the progress made toward pursuing a peaceful resolution of that claim through the ICJ.

The Foreign Minister was supported at this summit by Dylan Vernon, Belize's Ambassador in Brussels; and Ayesha Borland, the Director of International Affairs.

The Summit was preceded by other ACP Ministerial meetings, including the 110th ACP Council of Ministers.
