Friday’s Fatality Came First

Turning now to the Stann Creek District, we have an update on the accident we first told you about on Friday.

A 60-year-old Dangriga resident died in that collision at mile 13 on the Stann Creek Valley Road.

She was in a Toyota Highlander SUV - which crashed head on into a chevy passenger van.

Police say the accident happened on a curve:

"On Friday the 13th of December sometime around 3:30 pm, Dangriga police were called to an area between miles 12 and 13 on the Hummingbird Highway where they arrived at the seen of an accident, where they observed a white Chevy van which was being drive by Aziz Ariola, 24 years of a Dangriga town adress, on the right hand side when heading north. In front of it was a grey Toyota Highlander which was being driven by Beverly Flores, also of a Dangriga Town Adress. What the investigation revealed that Flores was south bound and apparently lost control of her vehicle after coming off the curve and collided head on into the white van being driven by Ariola. Flores' passenger one Lydia Weller sixty years also from a Dangriga Town address received severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital. Police are investigating this matter at this point in time."

"The other person's involved in the accident, were any of them injured?"

"There were varying degrees of injuries but minor injuries I am told in relation to the other passengers."

"Is it a fact that it appears to be the case of another vehicle overtaking and not clearing the opposite lane?"

"That was not reported to us or at least I did not get that information."
