Man Jacked Tourists At Zoo

A St. Matthews villager was charged with attempted robbery yesterday before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson. He is Esbey Solomon Alvarado. He allegedly attempted to steal from a tourist. Alvarado pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was offered a bail of $2,000 and his case was adjourned until February 17th. The incident occurred on December 14th. Jason O'Conner, an American tourist, reported to the police that when he and his female friend were outside of the zoo at mile 31 on George Price Highway, a man armed with a knife jumped out of the bushes and demanded money from him. O'Conner said he stood in front of his friend and the man apparently became intimidated and he jumped back into the bushes and disappeared. Later the same day the police found Alvarado hiding in the bushes. The police said Alvarado had a knapsack which contained camouflage clothing, a knife and a pair of rubber gloves.
