Huezo Tried to Harm Himself in Police Standoff

Tonight more is known about the standoff police had yesterday with Mario Huezo. He is a person of interest for police in the investigation into the double murder of his parents, Nancy and Rafael Huezo. And yesterday morning he had a standoff with police in Independence Village. Tonight we know more about why the the cops had to act decisively.

Around 10:00 in the morning police from the Independence Southern Formation saw the green Kia Soul that had been reported stolen. It was traveling on the Southern Highway near Santa Cruz village heading to Independence village.

Police tried to to stop the vehicle but instead the driver sped off, and a chase ensued. Nearing the Big Creek Port, police shot out one of the front tires which forced the driver to stop about a quarter mile away from the Port.

And that's when police saw Mario Huezo inside, and he refused to get out. Police tried to negotiate with him, but that's when he reportedly tried to slit his throat with a sharp object in his hand.

Seeing that, police smashed the vehicle's driver side window and forcibly removed him. The picture shows him on the pavement bleeding from those self inflicted injuries.

Police rushed him to the Independence Poly Clinic for treatment. He had multiple cut wounds to his neck.

Huezo had last been seen on Friday night, apparently intoxicated outside his parents house in Orange Walk. The next day - the elderly couple's family could not reach them, and then on Monday they were found dead in an advanced state of decomposition. A post mortem found that 58 year old Nancy died from multiple stab wounds to her neck, while 79 year old Rafael Huezo bled out from multiple stab wounds. The couple's vehicle and was stolen and there was blood all over the house.
