Minister’s Son in He Says, She Says
posted (December 18, 2019)
A domestic dispute that took place last night in Belmopan is receiving national attention because a Minister's son is involved.

And today Kenzel Hulse was taken to court and charged with one count of harm against his ex-girlfriend Nicole Usher.

Cherisse Halsall was in Belmopan for the arraignment and here's her report:

This morning a furious mother took to Facebook to post pictures of injuries her daughter sustained during an altercation with the father of her child, Kenzel Hulse. We spoke to that daughter 23-year-old Nicole Usher today and she told us what transpired during what was supposed to be a routine drop off of her child.

Nicole Usher, Victim of Harm
"My arrangement with Kenzel Hulse was for him to get the baby from 2' o'clock until 6 long story short. I met him what 6 minutes late to bring the baby and he, I guess I don't know if it's pent up anger or something against me and he just spazzed out and the first hit I got was in my face across my mouth and I cursed and I told him he didn't have to do that and he backhanded me again and after that, he jumped out of his seat and then he got on top of me and he started choking me and he slammed my head into the other side of the vehicle and that was when he started like pressing really tight and I was already blacking out and he released one hand and took out the 9mm and he like put it all around my face even my neck and I have scratches from where he put all that pressure and after that, he was like who will die first and obviously I couldn't speak or anything and at that time I had the baby in my hands. He let go and I caught my breath and he turned on the light in the car and he made me look in the back and he told me that he would start with me first and then my mom, my sister, and my brother and also one of my brother's friends."

"While Being in that I couldn't even think because all I was thinking about was protecting my baby so I couldn't hit him or anything because I had the baby in my arms so had to let him do whatever he wanted. And when I came out I got in the yard and I locked the gate and that was when I really caught my breath and started to cry."

This afternoon Kenzel Hulse appeared in court for the alleged attack. We spoke to his Attorney Hurl Hamilton after the arraignment and he told us that he is surprised that Nicole Usher isn't the one being charged.

Hurl Hamilton, Attorney-at Law
"Mr. Kenzel Hulse was charged this afternoon for one count of harm, one single charge of harm. I am very surprise it's Mr. Hulse who is being charged rather than the virtual complainant, as my instructions are that he was attacked."

Reporter:
"What about the fact that a weapon was used?"

Hurl Hamilton, Attorney-at Law
"Well I don't know about that. Mr. Hulse wasn't charged for any firearm offences, so I can't comment on whether there was or there was not. Suffice to say that he was not charged for any firearm offences."

Usher's mother was extremely disappointed by the results of her daughter's case and says that she fears retaliation from Hulse.

Sophia Holder, Mother of Nicole Usher
"All I can think about right now is how to keep my daughter safe from this monster, because he is a monster. He just kept looking back at my daughter. So I know what is running through his mind. They say you can't tell what somebody is thinking, but I know what he is thinking. Prosecution should have more evidence and why can't the police make sure that if a firearm was involved that there not granted bail to come after the victim. He was granted bail which gives him now a break to come after my daughter and everybody else which is my son, my other daughter, my grandchild, because he doesn't have any conscience. If he could beat my child with his child in my child's hands, what is he not going to do?"

We also caught up with Kenzel's father, Minister Godwin Hulse as he left the courtroom. An incensed Hulse said that his son has always had to tread more carefully because he is a minister's son.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture
"You know why this is here because this is Minister Hulse's son otherwise you all wouldn't be here. Hundreds of cases come for harm all the time, nobody follows them up etc. but Minister Hulse's son, that kid, has always had to be on P's and Q's. Let me make something clear to you - this is an issue that allegedly has a baby for him, that he was asked to baby sit. Most young men doesn't baby sit nobody's baby. He readily agreed. Took the child from 2pm - 6pm every evening for the last I think about a month and the child was getting close to him. Most young men doesn't do that. As a result he took back the baby and whatever happen happened. None any of you, not the mother who is giving a lot of statements, nobody, nor me was in the vehicle. So nobody knows what happened. That will come out in court when there is a trial. It's she says and my son says. My son speaks to me and she speaks to her mother. That is where we are."

As for Hulse's son, he decided to say as little as possible.

Kenzel Hulse, Defendant
"Anything I have to say please speak to my attorney."

Reporter
"Sir so at this point you are on bail. What are your next steps?"

Kenzel Hulse, Defendant
"Wait, wait."

Kenzel Hulse got bail of four thousand dollars and he will return to court on February 19th.

A press release by the Police department this evening states that Nicole Usher was issued with medico forms for which a Doctor certified her injuries as harm. The release also stated that while Hulse reported that he was slapped three times by Usher he requested no court action into the matter.

Hulse and Usher are due back in court on February 19th.
