Convicted Killer Catches A Break
posted (December 19, 2019)

A man got a huge break in court today after his sentence was cut down from 25 years to only 2 years and 10 months. Andrew Kelly, aka "Sweetie Law" was convicted of the March 1999 murder of 27 year old Chinese businesswoman Yang Li Chan. Kelly was initially sentenced to death then it was changed to life imprisonment. Well today, Justice Colin Williams deducted 20 years, 9 months and 3 days for the time he has spent in prison after he was convicted and sentenced. He also deducted 30 months for the time Kelly spent on remand. So like we said, Kelly now has to serve 2 years and 10 months remaining before his sentence has expired.

Chan, who was the owner of De He Li Store on Freetown Road, was shot and killed on March 16th, 1999, during a robbery at her store. Kelly was represented by attorney Anthony Sylvestre. Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell represented the Crown.
