Accused Killer Camron Harris Gets Off
posted (December 19, 2019)
19-year-old Camron Harris was also acquitted today in Justice William’s court room, of the November 2016 murder of Nelson Zelaya. Zelaya was standing in the back of his yard when he was shot in his back with a shotgun and three times in his head with a .38 pistol. The main witness for the Crown, represented by Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell, was Nicole Moody, Zelaya's common-law wife. She said she was in the bathroom, located outside of the house when she heard a loud bang. She also said that there were three gunshots, all of them from a close distance, and she recognized the shooter as Camron Harris who was in the bushes. But a visit to the location in question showed that Moody could not have positively seen the shooter and that her testimony that the shots were fired from close range was contradicted by the scientific and medical evidence which showed that the shots were fired from a distance. Harris' attorney, Leeroy Banner had made a submission that Harris had no case to answer to. Today Justice Williams upheld the submission and he found Harris not guilty. Last week Harris' brother, Lenford Harris jr, who was charged jointly with him, was freed of the charge when a nolle prosequi was entered, indicating that the Crown will not proceed with the trial against him. Lenford was also represented by attorney Leeroy Banner.
