Judgment Reserved In Port and NCL Case
posted (December 20, 2019)
On Tuesday's news, we told you about the multi-million dollar dispute between the Port of Big Creek and Norwegian Cruise Line. It ended up in the Supreme Court before Justice Courtney Abel. The Port's management wants the court to order NCL to pay them huge sums in damages because according to them, the multi-national baited them into making a bad investment in a dredger, which caused them to incur huge financial losses.

Then, there is a secondary dispute amongst these two companies. The two sides can't agree on exactly how much money NCL owes the Port when it was leasing the dredger from Tampa. The disparity between the quoted figures from the two sides is significant.

Justice Abel listened to arguments and evidence from the two sides over the course of 3 days, and the case concluded very late last night. He has now reserved judgment to a date to be announced.

The port is being represented by Senior Counsel Said Musa and Rodwell Williams, while NCL's group of companies is being represented by Senior Counsel Magali Marin-Young. We contacted her for comment on NCL's defense of the case today, and she told us that her clients would prefer to wait until after the judge's decision has been handed down.

We'll keep following the case.
