Chamber Says UNCAC Implementation Losing Momentum
posted (December 23, 2019)
We'll come back to our interview with Peyrefitte shortly, but, first, to his boss, the Prime Minister. On Friday, we asked him about a letter which the Chamber sent to him on December thirteenth complaining about the lag in progress with implementing the United National Convention Against Corruption, known as UNCAC.

He said the only letter he knew about was one to Attorney General Peyrefitte:

Reporter
"The N.T.U.C.B. and the Chamber have remarked that there is a stall in the implementation of the UNCAC process. The Chamber has written to you. Is that something that you are looking at to see whats happening?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"The Chamber copied to me what they wrote to the Attorney General who is the focal point. As far as I understand the official targets that were required to be met have been met. There are more things to be done and I think the Attorney General made the point that there is some hold up because of a lack of funds but I have no doubt that indeed the complaint of the Chamber and the N.T.U.C.B. will be addressed by the Attorney General and therefore the government."
