PM Has No Problem Opening Up Coastal Road Contract
posted (December 23, 2019)
And, similarly, the Prime Minister and his attorney General hit slightly different notes when it came to the contract for the construction of the Coastal Road that the Chamber is requesting.

As we told you the 36 mile road will cost 132 million dollars and be completed in six months.

It was awarded to the joint venture firm of Imer Hernandez Development Co. Ltd. and a Mexican company, Construcciones y Carreteras.

The Project is funded by the CDB and the United Kingdom - so the PM says he is happy to show them the contracts:…

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"And they will get every, their request fully and completely complied with. Let me just repeat that particular contract was controlled by the British and by the CDB so there is nothing for the government to hide. So I have spoken to the president of the Chamber but I believe that they might have already have gotten the information that they asked for. There is nothing to hide."

"What about IDB sending that allegation that the opposition leader made about the IDB sending down someone to investigate some of the projects done by Imer Hernandez?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I don't know about that. I only heard from the leader of the opposition. The IDB has certainly said nothing to us as a government, but again, if the IDB wishes to conduct an audit over the way the projects that they are funding, over the way those projects have been handled, let them do that, because again, ultimately with the IDB as with the Brits and the other multilateral agencies - they oversee the process and no contract can be awarded, no person can be choosen as the contractor without the approval of the, in this case, IDB. SO they'd be auditing and investigating themsevles and more power to them."
