A 21 year old woman from Esperanza Village in the Cayo District has reported to San Ignacio Police that an abductor tried to take her today.  

It allegedly happened in Esperanza village not far from her home.  She says she was walking to a nearby cousin’s house when she saw a white Ford Econoline style van pulling up beside her.  She thought nothing of it because her uncle has a similar van. But then, suddenly, she says two brown skinned men, one of them about five feet ten inches tall hopped out of the van and grabbed her, trying to push her into the back of the van. 

She said she put of a fight and struck him in the groin, and then ran for her life. The men then sped off in the van, which is described as white and having a cardboard over the back windows.  

Police have notified their checkpoints of the report and ar eon the lookout for such a van. They believe ti may have originated in Belmopan.

Notably, when she showed up at the police station, she had a number of scratch marks.
