OW Family Left Homeless on Christmas Night
posted (December 27, 2019)
An Orange Walk family got the worst news for the holidays when their home burned down on Christmas night. It happened at around 8:30 on Santa Familia Street, in Orange Walk Town. 41 year old Daniel Novelo was at his mother in law's house for a family bar-b-que when he saw smoke near his 20 x 20 house. He rode his bicycle over, only to get the worst news:

Daniel Novelo, Fire Victim
"By the time I was coming half way, I met the neighbor riding to meet us and says that my house is unde fire. I took the bicycle and I rode through the alley and by the time I reach there the house was completely engulfed in flames. We weren't at home on the 24th night. We came about 10am to bathe so we can go to the hospital to see my brother-in-law and by the time we came we just lost everything. My wife and I and the kids just left with the suit of clothes on our backs. It's a tragedy and it hurts, what can we do about it? Just find out who did it or how it happened. Thank God that nobody didn't get hurt. I know that nothing was left on, because we weren't at home. The fire started at the back of the yard and where we had the Christmas light at the front wasn't burning yet. That is basically what happened."

"What do you suspect was the cause of teh fire? Do you believe it's from a malfunction of something in the house or maybe it was a case of arson?"

Daniel Novelo, Fire Victim
"I am seeing some evidence that someone moved at the back of my yard. I see a black rag at the back of the yard, but we have to wait until the police come to make a motive. The evidence is showing that someone ran through the place its shows where they exited on the other side of the compound. I don't have any immediate with anyone, I don't know it's just that someone passed and saw I was living or that I am trying to make a little effort to grow up in life - I don't know. I lived here for the past 5 years. I struggled and build my place. I will have to start all over again."

Novelo made the house with his own hands, and lived there with his wife and child for the past 5 years. Now he has to rebuild it - and if you'd like to help, you can call 631-1227.
