And if you took a New Year's Eve jaunt across the border you might be alarmed to hear that there was a midnight armed robbery at a place well known to Belizeans, Chetumal's Sam's Club.
According to online reports from Mexican news blog, at midnight last night, armed men in military dress entered the membership store and threatened the staff, managing to take money from the cashiers.
The reports say the Mexican National Guard is investigating the incident, but so far there have been no further clues about this case and no arrests made.
There are also no reports on whether any of the Sam's Club staff were injured by the criminals.
