Roger Accused of Road Rage
posted (December 31, 2019)
We all are guilty of saying things in anger that we don't mean, but Roger Alexander Ventura Chamel is facing a court fine tonight for his harsh words. That's after he allegedly uttered a death threat at a man and pulled a pellet gun on him for added effect.

The complainant, 55-year-old Maurice Kelly, reported to police that on December 20th, he parked his truck in front of Peppers Pizza, which is located on St. Thomas Street in Belize City. He said that he went inside to purchase food, and when he exited, Chamel engaged him in an angry confrontation. According to Kelly, Chamel accused him of crashing into his car. Both men argued back and forth until Chamel pulled out an object that appeared to be a firearm, and pointed it at Kelly.

Kelly immediately became fearful for his life, and he jumped into his truck, sped off, and reported the incident to police.

Investigators eventually charged Chamel with aggravated assault with a firearm, and he was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford. He initially intended to plead not guilty to the offense, but that's when the Senior Magistrate informed him that he wouldn't be eligible for bail. He then changed his plea to guilty, and he asked the court for leniency. He said that he was sorry for what he did, and his attorney, Hurl Hamilton, submitted on his behalf that this was his first offense and that he had saved the court time by accepting guilt.

After consideration, the Magistrate sentenced Chamel to pay a fine of $500, by February 28th of next year. If he defaults, he will serve 5 months in jail.
