Fire’s Genesis is a Mystery
posted (January 3, 2020)
Today we asked the Belize City Fire Station Supervisor, Kenneth Mortis about the first hand accounts which tell of a fire breaking out in three places inside the house, all at once. He said it is puzzling to them also:

"Have you guys been able to establish what caused that fire?"

Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor, National Fire Service
"The investigation isn't concluded as yet. It is a bit out of the norm so to speak. There are certain aspects that we can rule out. We can rule out arson attempt, we can rule out cooking and those sorts of things. It is still ongoing as we speak and we are hoping that before the day is over, we can conclude that the fire started as a result of this."

"The first responder Mr. Michael Bowen who lives in the adjoining structure said he went in and saw the fire in 3 different places in the house. He put out 2 but didnt put out the third and that was where Miss Reina was sleeping. What are we to make of this?"

Kenneth Mortis
"Wow! 3 different fires. We got that same information which is a bit mind boggling. Its heavily furnished wooden structure. We have sofa pieces, bed sets - the whole nine yards that you can think about. How do we explain 3 different fires? I don't want to dispute what he said he saw, however when we arrived that fire was already full fledge."

Notably, 20 year old Michael Bowen - who was one of the first responders, and rescuers for the burning woman - had been through fire before; when he was a boy, his family home also burned down.
