Pech Sent To Jail for 6th Conviction
posted (January 3, 2020)
Tonight, 52-year-old Elias Pech, a resident of the Hattieville/Boom Road, is at the Belize Central Prison serving out a 6-month prison sentence. That's after he pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle, making this his 6th conviction for crimes of dishonesty.

The incident happened on December 21st in Burrell Boom Village. Edison Dawson reported to police that his silver and black beach cruiser bicycle, valued at $100, was stolen from his yard. When he reviewed surveillance footage from his home cameras, he saw Pech riding off on it.

Police charged Pech with theft. He was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, and he wasted no time, pleading guilty to the charge. He told the senior magistrate that he took the bike because he needed to get to his farm to feed his ducks and chickens, and his intention was to return it afterward.

He was hoping that Senior Magistrate Ford would impose a fine on him, but after reviewing his criminal history, she told him that she couldn't do that. That's because Pech has prior convictions for 3 counts of theft, 1 count of burglary, and 1 count of handling stolen goods. So instead, she sentenced him to serve 6 months in jail.
