Charged For Traffic Fatality Three Years Later
posted (January 6, 2020)
Police are also reporting tonight that they're in the process of bringing criminal charges against an Orange Walk District resident who knocked down and killed 2 men on a motorcycle back in October 2016.

He's 45-year-old Martin Ramos, a resident of San Felipe Village. Police reports were that on Friday, October 7th, 2016, he was driving his black Ford F-2000 pickup truck on the San Felipe Road in the August Pine Ridge area. He was heading to his home village when his vehicle slammed into a red Meilun motorcycle. That motorbike was being driven by 25-year-old Abraham Diaz, a resident of August Pine Ridge, and he had his fellow villager, 34-year-old Antonio Solis, as his passenger. Those two were heading in the opposite direction toward August Pine Ridge when the truck and the motorbike crashed into each other. Both Diaz and Solis suffered serious head and body injuries, and they died on the scene.

Well, just over 3 years later, police say that Ramos must be held criminally liable for their deaths. The head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch discussed the case with us today:

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
"The arrest of Martin Ramos, 45 years old, for two counts of causing death by careless conduct. He was arrested in Orange Walk for an accident that had happened on the 7th of October, 2016, on the Orange Walk San Antonio Road where he was west bound when he collided into one Abraham Diaz, 25 years old and his passenger on the motorcycle, Antonio Solis. As a result both persons lost their lives and as a consequence an investigation was carried out where he was later arrested and charged over the weekend based on the direction from the D.P.P."

Reporter
"Sir, are you able to tell us why the long delay in bringing charges from 2016 up to now?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"There were a number of work that had to have been done so the file was sent to the D.P.P. and sent back for further directives which were eventually carried out before she made that decision."

Ramos will be arraigned at the earliest convenience for these charges.
