San Jose Palmar is a quiet village in the Orange Walk district, but last night, a masked gunman shattered that peace when he attacked a cab driver.
46-year-old Ricardo Uk was shot to the chest while driving in Palmar.
The attack unfolded just after 6:20 pm when when a black SUV overtook his Mitsubishi Outlander and abruptly stopped in front of them.
A masked man with pistol hopped out of the SUV, strode towards the taxi and ordered Uk out.
Police say Uk put up a fight and that's when he was shot. The gunman then fled in Uk's vehicle. Uk was helped to the Northern Regional Hospital by a passing driver. He has since been treated and released.
Police have made no arrests.
