Alleged Dollar Store Robber Goes To Jail
posted (January 7, 2020)
29-year-old Glenford Diego made the news last month when he was charged with the armed robbery of "Dollar Store" - in downtown Belize City.

While he awaits trial for that, tonight, Diego is in jail serving out a 6-year sentence for an unrelated offence. That's after he was found guilty of keeping a prohibited firearm and keeping ammunition without a gun license in a judgment that was read to him by Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson on Friday.

She sentenced him to 6 years for the firearm, which is a .45 pistol and 3 years for 8 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition in the magazine. The sentences, she stipulated, are to run concurrently - so he will only serve 6 years.

The charge goes back to December of 2018, when police searched Diego on the Phillip Goldson Highway and found the large pistol wrapped inside a shirt. Diego testified but he did not say anything about the firearm. He still faces a charge of aggravated burglary for that Dollar Store robbery.
