It’s day 9 of the new year and, thankfully, so there has only been one murder in Belize City. That’s an improvement on last year when by this time there had already been two, both of which occurred on New Year's day.
And today Superintendent Alejandro Cowo said that the stop and search patrols in the city seem to be working.

"You have seen police presence on many of the streets in Belize City and I applaud the hard work that they are doing. They are constantly stopping and searching several persons in every part of the city. This has shown that what the police have implemented is working and it will continue to work. I know that some persons might be annoyed because they have been stopped and search at some point in time but that it what is taking us to the city being calm at this moment."
The Belize District had 42 urban murders and 23 rural murders last year.
