FBI Helping to Find Alison
posted (January 22, 2020)
US tourist Alison Mackenzie has now been missing for almost 5 days - and, tonight, there is only faint hope her survival.

MacKenzie and her boyfriend were on a three-day cruise with Ragamuffin tours. On Friday night they had stopped to camp for an overnight at Rendezvous Caye when she mysteriously disappeared. Since then, the tour company, the Belize Coast Guard, and The Police Department have launched widespread searches to find her.

And today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told us that the FBI has offered to assist in the search.

Reporter:
"Can you provide us with an update if any on police efforts to locate or work with their counterparts in locating the missing American woman from Rendevous Caye?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes, I know that the FBI has engaged us with offering assistance and I've said to Mr Myvette and Mr Cowo I have no objection. We welcome any assistance that they can give to this cause and we are hoping that result will be positive even though that seems farfetched at this time but we just continue to hope that the result will be positive in locating her."

Jules Vasquez:
"Is her boyfriend at any point being considered a suspect, has he been questioned and are you all looking at it from the criminal perspective at all?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"At this time there is no reason to believe that she was murdered but we are still looking at that as such, we must always investigate with the worst-case scenario in mind."

"In terms of the boyfriend he has been interviewed just like any other person who was on the tour and at this time we don't have anything to say that him or any other person on the tour may have done something to her so we'll just continue to investigate and see where the investigation will take us."

"We understand that they were drinking on the boat heavily and she may have gotten drunk before going to bed. We're not sure but it can be assumed that she might have left her tent and went into the sea and something happened there are watchmen on the island and they have also been interviewed by the police and they have shared some information but I don't want to take that information public."

"But the information that they have shared with us is being used to see how it could be used to help us to determine more or less what may have transpired."

MacKenzie's boyfriend and family members, some of whom are reported to have flown into Belize, also continue the search.
