She was accused of killing her common law husband, and 42 year old Mexican Annabell Kumul pleaded guilty to manslaughter today.Â
In a confession, Kumul told police that she stabbed 28 year old Felix Alamailla because he had gone on a drinking spree. Kumul, who is a Mexican had just returned from Chetumal to find him at a friend’s house, sleeping on the couch. She said she got so angry that she immediately stabbed him three times - but didn’t think it would be fatal. Ultimately, the stab to the thigh is what caused him to bleed out and die. Â
Today, after hearing a victim impact statement and a statement of remorse from Kumul’s attorney, Justice Colin Williams sentenced her to 15 years in prison for the crime. But she’ll go home much earlier than that. Â
Justice Williams explained that because she pleaded guilty she was entitled to one third off her sentence, or 10 years less.Â
Also, he deducted 5 years and 6 months, Â which was the time she had spent on remand.Â
That left the time she has remaining in prison at 4 years and 6 months.Â
Kumul met Felix in 2004 in Chetumal when he was at a rehabilitation center and they got together and went to live in San Pedro.
They had 2 children together.Â
