Drug Planes Dropping Like Flies
posted (January 29, 2020)

It would appear that the entire northern triangle region comprising Belize, Guatemala and southeastern Mexico have become one big clandestine airfield for drug plane landings. And, this week, the planes have been falling like flies! There were four between Saturday and Monday: One in Belize, 2 in Mexico and one in Guatemala.

And, there one more last night. While this one was rumored to be headed for Blue Creek, that didn’t happen. Whether through deterrence or evasion, it went instead for Mahauhual - which is 90 miles north of Chetumal.

A press release from Mexico’s Secretary of Defense says, quote “Through the Comprehensive Air Surveillance System of this Unit an illicit aircraft was detected in national waters, coming from Argentina to Cozumel, Quintana Roo. The Mexican Air Force were deployed…(and) the crew of the aircraft noticed the presence of military aircraft, so they decided to land forcefully at the Mahahual airfield.

Military personnel were activated on the ground and came up with one ton of cocaine, in 32 packages.

It’s a sizable bust valued at about 12 million US dollars. Two Bolivians were aboard the plane and have been arrested. The plane used was another G2 jet - similar to the types seen in Belize as well.

On Monday morning another narco plane landed close to Bacalar. But, in that case, the cartel was fully mobilized with vehicles and high powered rifles, including a .50 caliber sniper rifle. Mexican media reports that when the firefight was over the general in charge had been hit, his driver killed, and at least two more soldiers wounded. The narcos got off with half the drugs, while the Mexican Army seized about 1,300 pounds.
