Parplegic Welch Guilty of Holdup At Dit’s

The paraplegic, Aspinal Welch was back in court today.

And this evening he was found guilty of deadly harm with intent to commit grievous harm. That’s after a jury of 6 men and 3 women came to a 7 - 2 verdict. With that, he was taken off to jail. 

Welch is accused of pointing a revolver at Nelson Young. Young says that on November 21st 2012,  he had just finished having lunch with friends at Dit’s restaurant when he was accosted by Welch. He then took out his licensed firearm and fired up to three shots at Welch before realizing that Welch was out of ammunition. Thereafter he commanded Welch to lie down on the foor at gunpoint.

By then the police arrived and detained Welch.And today Welch gave a statement admitting that he was at the restaurant buying a piece of cake for his mother but claimed that he wasn’t Young’s assailant. He also claims to know who the real gunman is.

But at 5:56 this evening - after two hours of deliberation - jurors found Welch guilty. He was remanded to the Belize Central prison and is expected to be sentenced on February 19th, 2020.
