Faber Confident About Convention
posted (February 4, 2020)
And, going back now to politics, Patrick Faber and John Saldivar only have four more days to campaign before the big leadership convention. And today, Faber lost almost an entire day negotiating a truce with the teachers union. After that 5 hour session, he told the press he's cool about the current status of his campaign:

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Part Leader
"I'm very comfortable at where we are now. I have managed to meet those delegates who, I believe, are going to support me and in fact some of those who are not. I believe at this point I am comfortable to say that we have that majority. In terms of support I am not the underdog, in fact I continue to maintain the support of the majority of those delegates in my view. So the people who really matter, the base is my support. I continue to enjoy the support of some of my colleagues, not all of them."

"So while I don't want it to be interpreted that I don't appreciate or I am not seeking the support of my ministerial colleagues, you will never know. Some of them who were on that poster with Minister Saldivar may well be casting their ballots in my favor. I am of the very strong opinion that that is the case and I am optimistic that we will be able to secure the victory and bring it all together and that effort of course starts immediately. We don't even want to wait until the convention is concluded for the unity rally to start, which is why coming out of the NPC on Saturday we felt it was not proper for us to make the kind of comments that you people in the media wanted us to make."
