BNTU Says Slow Down On Equal Opportunities Bill
posted (February 4, 2020)
And turning quickly back to the news on the BNTU, yesterday they sent out a press release expressing concern about the tone of the conversations over the National AIDS Commission's Equal Opportunities Bill.

Their press release says quote, "The… Union is gravely concerned over the fast pace at which presentations and consultations have been carried out regarding the recently released draft of the Equal Opportunities Bill.

….entities both for and against the bill have been producing and disseminating only their biased versions of its content. This has created nothing more than confusion and division of our people…" End quote.

During yesterday's press conference with the Union, President Elena Smith commented on the her reservations about the bill:

Elena Smith, President - BNTU
"And we are calling for a slowdown of the way in which they are addressing the matter of that bill. And if the case we look at it as being going very quickly and persons don't really have a chance for them to properly digest what the bill is, to understand it, it and make meaningful contributions. So we are requesting that that be slowed down. We know that we have other bills that we have been pushing before, for example, the OSH and we see how slowly that is going. But here comes this bill and we are racing through as if though if we don't get it done by a certain time we're all gonna die."

The BNTU says it will have its own forums for teachers to present both sides of the argument.
