Was Brian Murdered?
posted (February 6, 2020)
You may remember 36-year-old Brian Harris. He's the Belize City resident who police found suffering from multiple gunshot injuries on a picado road off Mile 17 and a half on the George Price Highway.

That was six weeks ago, and police believed that he survived an entire night with those injuries before he was discovered and rushed to the KHMH for medical treatment. He clung to life for 6 weeks until he passed away on Sunday, January 26th. In that time, he was released from the hospital - but he had been paralysed. And, he had to be re-admitted with complications, which is when he died.

So, how do police move forward with their investigation of his case - will it be treated as a murder? Well, that's what we asked them today, and they told us that it will be a challenging crime to solve. Here's how they explained why:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"We Well, yes reference the death of Mr. Brian Harris. A post-mortem was conducted on the body. After the conclusion, the doctor certified that the cause of death was because of the gunshot injuries that he received. That matter is still being investigated by police."

Reporter
"No perpetrators have been identified as yet?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"We know that from the initial stage, Mr. Harris was interviewed whilst he was alive, and he could not describe who his attackers were. And as a result, we're still unable to definitely say if it was one person or more than one person who shot at him on that night when he was shot."

Reporter
"So, the investigation is a bit challenged because of that, right sir?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, the area where the incident occurred was lonely, and it was late in the night, and you have to remember that he was found until the following morning, by a passerby in the area."

As you heard, the cause of his death has been determined to be directly connected to the gunshot injuries he suffered on December 15th.
