Tino In Prison
posted (February 6, 2020)
He was charged with murder for the shooting death of a 17-year-old teenager, but tonight 30-year-old Timothy Thurton, aka "Timo", is at the Belize Central Prison Tonight awaiting sentencing. That's after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The young man he admitted to gunning down is Brandon Bradley, a resident of Lords Bank Village. On the night of April 26, 2017, Bradley was in the company of his brother at an unnamed shop a short distance from his house. At around 10:00 he rode off on his bicycle to go home, but he never made it. While he was on the way, a gunman ambushed and shot him several times to the chest.

Police investigated this crime and several days later, they arrested and charged Thurton with murder. When his case came up before Justice Colin Williams today, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Court reports are that Thurton gave police a caution statement in which he admitted to the crime. He reportedly told police that he was working as a security guard at the Belize Water Services' compound, which is located near to the victim's home. The weapon he used to fatally shoot Bradley belonged to his security firm. He reportedly told police that on the day before, Brandon jumped the fence of the BWS compound, and threatened to stab him with a knife he had in his possession. The two men reportedly had a bitter dispute over a dog that Brandon had sold Turton. He said that he refused to pay for the dog because it died.

Justice Williams has scheduled Thurton's sentencing hearing for February 20th. He's being represented by attorney Simeon Sampson, while the prosecution is being represented by Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell.
