Ammo Found, Drugs Gone By Water
posted (February 7, 2020)

Tonight, more is known about that drug plane which was found burnt up in Monkey River yesterday morning.  As we told you, police found a twin engine aircraft, identified to us as a Piper Navajo which had landed in the grass beside an airstrip that had already been destroyed.  The only clearings were for the lights which were used to guide the plane in.  When police searched the area they found a trove of weapons and accessories, including several machetes, gallons of gasoline, plus a red kitbag that had been buried.  That contained 11 magazines, nine of which were loaded with .233 ammunition. There were also two boxes of .233 Remington ammunition.

All this, but no drugs.  And, an inspection of the area led police to believe that the drug cargo was carried to a manmade channel nearby, and taken away by boats.

Villagers in the area told police that there were several vessels moving in the area very early that morning.
