Victims Fighting Back Robbers

Ladyville police are investigating an armed robbery where the assailants targeted a woman using a toy gun - and she put up a fight that sent them scampering.

At around 8:45 last night, 48-year-old Elizabeth Borland was walking home when, at the corner of Jackson Street and Egbert Quilter Street, she was grabbed from behind.  Her assailant robbed her of her purse which contained her house keys, and 3 cellular phones. 

Burt, Borland wasn’t about to let that go and struggled to get back her stolen purse from the robber. She ended up taking away what initially appeared to be a black handgun, but she realized that it was a plastic toy gun. She then noticed that the assailant was part of a group of 3 young men who ran off. One of them had a pink school bag on his back.

Police were quick to respond, and after the received information that 2 young men were seen leaving the bushes nearby, the went and checked the area. They ended up finding a 17-year-old minor with the pink school bag. He has since been detained pending investigation for this incident.

And related news, San Ignacio police are looking for 2 men of Mayan Descent who they believe was involved in an armed robbery using a pellet gun. At around  9 yesterday morning, Marcel Lamb and a co-worker were at a farm in the Sierra Lindo area, which is located near to the San Ignacio Town Hospital. These 2 men were robbed at gunpoint, but they also resisted. The victims ended up taking away the weapon that the robbers used against them. It appeared to be a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun, but upon closer inspection, it was later determined it was just a pellet gun.
