Faber resigns As DPM, Patt to Be Named
posted (February 10, 2020)
And, tonight, that new leader John Saldivar is making international news. He is on the front page of the Salt Lake Tribune. The headline in the Utah newspaper asks, "was he on the take?"

It also calls him the next premier of Belize, which is the wrong term; he stands to be the next Prime Minister. As you heard him say in his interview just now about when he expects the Prime Minister to step aside, he said they will be in discussions timed around the budget. The budget, we have learned, is scheduled to be presented on March 5th.

But, will Dean Barrow step aside for Saldivar to lead in view of what's been led in evidence so far in Utah? Politically, observers agree, it would be a disaster, but technically, the PUP say he has to. The opposition issued a release today referring to section 37 of the Belize Constitution. It says, when the Governor General has an occasion to appoint a Prime Minister he shall appoint a member of the house of representatives who is the leader of the political party which commands the support of the majority of the members of the house."

Right now that person is John Saldivar, but so fat the PUP's suggestion is probably more political gamesmanship than real talk.

There are no indications tonight form the Prime Minister's office on what he intends to do about what happened yesterday at the Civic and what happened today in Utah.

One man who wants no part of it is Patrick Faber. Today he took the high road and sent the Prime Minister his resignation as Deputy Prime Minister. It is unclear if and when Hugo Patt will take up that post.
