Kendis Tells Media Take It Easy On tourism
posted (February 12, 2020)
Kendis Gibson has been featured on this newscast many times before. He's the Belize City boy who's made a name for himself in the American media as a co-Anchor of ABC's America This Morning and World News Now.

Well, today Kendis was once again in Belize and this time he was here at the invitation of the BTB to provide a workshop on international journalism best practices in the interest of protecting Belize's image as a tourism destination.

And Gibson told us that the international media is depending on our local media houses to accurately report what goes on in Belize.

Kendis Gibson, Anchor, MSNBC
"What we were talking about today is trying to give you guys the sense that we as journalist in the United States are often, we realize that we have to be out there with the information, but we also know that we have a larger role in our community, whether it is just our circle of journalist or our country itself. So I pointed how we would often not named the shooters in mass shootings lately. That use to be something when I start in the business that we immediately feel it is important to get that negative information out there."

"When I started in the business we were showing dead bodies and body bags. We do not show that stuff anymore, so my part of what I wanted to do here is to kind of say step back, what are we benefitting from showing all that stuff, getting all the minute negative information out there that might not necessarily be true. What impact that has on your own community and the country's image globally. Like I have said you guys are the eyes and ears for us whenever something happens in Belize. We will be saying local media reports. So if you all are not getting it right, you're getting it first - its having a long term impact elsewhere."

MSNBC Live with Kendis Gibson occupies the networks 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 a.m. blocks on Saturday and Sundays. His show covers politics and news of the day.
