Saldivar's Seppuku
posted (February 13, 2020)

And so, there it is, we can say with certainty now that John Saldivar’s consistent denials, right up until Sunday at the UDP convention were false.  Here is proof he positioned himself to get money from Lev Dermen through Jacob Kingston, and he confirmed he received it.  As we said, the number in the messages is known to be his number.

This text transcript was released from the Utah courthouse at 5:10 PM, and it surely would be enough to force the Prime Minister to fire Saldivar who he suspended indefinitely yesterday.

But, he cannot fire him now because he already quit.  In somewhat of a surprise move this afternoon, it was announced from the Prime Minister’s office that Saldivar this afternoon submitted his letter of resignation from the Cabinet to the PM Barrow.

A release says, quote, â€œSaldivar’s resignation is with immediate effect and is done, Hon Saldivar explained, to give himself an opportunity to get out from under the cloud of suspicion resulting from the barrage of accusations leveled against him. He expressed the hope of regaining the confidence of the public and the support of Cabinet once he has cleared his name.â€￾

With this damning revelation we’re not sure how he will now clear his name, but, it will be interesting. First, regardless of how bad it looks, receiving funds for a political campaign is not a crime.  But, transferring large sums of money in cash amounts often involves money laundering which the US government will be looking into, as will the Belize police.  We spoke to the commissioner of police minutes before we got these messages about the possibility of investigating his former boss:

Jules Vasquez
"Your minister, the politician who was your minister on Monday, has now resigned from the cabinet and there is the possibility that you may have to investigate him for criminal wrong doing."

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Well if there is someone to be investigated then, as you would know it is the duty of the police to investigate and if or when that time comes, then we just have to do what needs to be done. I can tell you that from listening to what has been occurring in the news, there are several things that must be done in order to prompt an investigation, one of which must involve the obtaining of the court transcript and having obtained that, then we have to see how we go from there and there is a process that will have to be followed in order for that to be obtained as well. So, I would want to think that in order of us to move forward, we will have to wait a little while until the case is over in the US and then request the court transcript and then we see how we go from there."
