The Surveillance Rumor Response
posted (February 13, 2020)

And the ones doing the mobilization right now is the Ministry’s Surveillance Response Team.  A part of that means responding to rumours, and they told us about that today:

Lorna Perez - Surveillance Officer MOH
"In the event that we detect a suspected case that requires that level of screening because we must understand that there is case definition, there is certain criteria that has to be met for this screening to actually happen. So, in getting our stuff sensitized in what we’re looking for, looking at case definitions, looking at sample collection of processing and having our eyes and ears open at every port of entry, is very essential at this point of time. So, I know that Dr. Manzanero says we do not look at headlines, but for us at surveillance, we look at every rumour that is out there. So, any information that comes to us whether it’s official or unofficial, through social media, through a neighbour, through somebody, we investigate, we do not take it lightly. So, we go out and we investigate the case, determine whether it warrants further investigation and we either decide or we continue the follow up of these cases."
