BNTU Says Saldivar Not Enough, “Run Di Rest”
posted (February 14, 2020)
So, while the unions will decide, the president clearly is not inclined to just jump on the blue bandwagon. But, all the major unions: the PSU, the CWU and the BNTU are joined in saying that the matter is not finished with Saldivar's resignation.

Senator Elena Smith asked what about the four other UDP colleagues that Saldivar told Lev Dermen he was co financing?:

Hon. Elena Smith - President, BNTU
"It's appalling, to say the least, and you are well aware that BNTU, from 2016, had called for the resignation of the said minister because of the Mason matter. And, we are now in 2020, and we have reached that point again."

"If it is that he is resigning, and taxpayers' money will be used to pay him, as he continues with his role as area representative, I suppose that is fine. But, if we are going to be paying him, and he's no longer there, then that's a concern."

"Other concern is as it relates to the impact or the black eye that it has caused on the country of Belize. We know that this is now international, and it really doesn't look for us to have persons in these high positions to be accused of meddling in such behavior."

"If we are to determine whether [or not] he is guilty, and how deeply involved he was, then we have to investigate, and so, we support an investigation. And it's not just investigation into his actions. Other names were called. We heard about the mayor in Belmopan, and we heard this talk about getting money for 4 other persons. Who are those persons, and what will happen to those persons?"

Today, the Christian Workers Union put out a statement saying it stands in solidarity with the Public Service Union in its call for, quote, "an immediate investigation of former Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, as well as other identified associates, including Belmopan Mayor Khalid Belisle."

The CWU adds that, quote, "like the PSU and other Belizean Stakeholders, CWU is disappointed that the Prime Minister failed to keep his promise to fire any Minister revealed to have lied to him and Cabinet about taking money from Lev Dermen and his accomplice Jacob Kingston."
