Fire Dept Phones On The Fry
posted (February 19, 2020)

That village bucket brigade may have been brought together by community morale but the people of Seine Bight might have been forced to become first responders because the fire truck took longer than expected to get there.  And that’s because the phones at the Placencia fire station weren’t working. And today Station Supervisor at Fire Service Headquarters Kenneth Mortis said that they’ve been having issues with their phones countrywide.

"In order for the fire service representatives down south to have gotten that information they had to get it from the Placencia police because their (phone) numbers weren’t working. And we’re also being told that several numbers for the different substations of the national fire service in different parts of the country are not working. Can you either confirm or deny and if it’s a confirmation can you kindly speak to what is the problem and what is the national fire service doing about it?"

Kenneth Mortis - Station Supervisor

"Unfortunately, the information you’ve received is correct. We are experiencing technical issues whereby some of our counterpart stations are not working indeed. That is an issue that is being dealt with currently by the Belize telecommunications limited. And the best advice the fire department can probably offer is until those issues are resolved, then we will encourage emergency calls to be forwarded to your neighbours police department or you can make that call directly to us here at the headquarters."

The Fire Department says the most reliable phone numbers to call right now are 2077378 or 2072579.
