Fire in Hattieville Restaurant Started At Fast Food Joint
posted (February 19, 2020)

Earlier in the news we told you about a fire in Seine Bight where 30 people lost their homes, but a sixty-year-old man from Hattieville also lost his home to a fire yesterday. It happened at around 2:15 in the afternoon when his neighbour, 38-year-old Leticia Smith, rushed out to pick up a child she was scheduled to babysit leaving her stove unattended.

Kenneth Mortis - Station Supervisor
"Minutes after the team in Placencia was fighting at Seine Bight village, we here in the city received one of a structure fire in progress in the Hattieville village some 16 miles out of town. As usual we responded. And when we responded we observed two collapsed structures that had already burned out. We got into an operation in trying to extinguish these hotspots and then after that we launched an investigation. Our investigation led us to confirm that of the two structures, one was used as a fast food establishment and the other was used as a place of residence. Unfortunately, the fast food establishment proprietor had left the building with an unattended stove which had contributed to the cause of the fire. Thereby leaving the 60-year-old of the structure homeless."

The sixty-year-old resident of the building was, fortunately, not at home. The shop and its contents were valued at about $2,868.00.
