Student Union Snaps Back At UB
posted (February 21, 2020)

Last night we brought you the story of the UB students who walked out of class to protest in solidarity with the NTUCB. That was after the University decided that the government-mandated Non-School day does not apply to the university.

And while the students got to attend their rally, the University sent out their own memorandum stating that in the future any Ministry of Education memorandum that does not specifically mention the University and is not endorsed by the University’s President can have no effect.

Tonight the National Student Union has responded. It says that University’s memo is insulting to students because it admits that the University stripped students of the opportunity to partake in the demonstration and of their constitutional right to “freedom of conscience of expression and of assembly and association.

The NSU’s release also said that the University’s decision ultimately silenced students voices and claims that such behaviour will not be condoned or dealt with lightly should it reoccur.
