Family Of Murder Victim Seeking Suspects
posted (February 21, 2020)

And, the relative ion a murder victim is asking the Ministry of National Security to press for closure in an open murder investigation.

On January 7th we told you about the brutal killing of Mexican property manager 46-year-old Gabriel Guzman Cruz. It's a harrowing story, one that greatly disturbed the residents of Seine Bight and neighbouring Placencia.

At the time Police classified the murder as a robbery gone wrong and yet the brutal nature of Guzman’s killing left many to think that something more sinister was at play. Chief among those critics are the Guzman Cruz family. They travelled to Belize in the days after Alex Guzman’s death; they came to cremate their brother and son, and also to get their own handle on what lead to his extremely brutal death.

Tonight Alex’s brother Edgar still has unanswered questions. We spoke to him over the phone yesterday evening and he says that the family believes a third party had to be involved in his brother’s murder.

Edgar Guzman Cruz- Brother of Deceased
"We were allowed to go to the property by the same Placencia police. We went to the crime scene and one of the things that we noticed is that no windows, no doors were forced open. We walked around the house and we noticed that there was no violence to enter the home. And the other thing is that when we stepped into the first floor, in the living room and in the kitchen area, nothing was missing. Everything was normal. There was nothing out of place, everything was in order, you know, like a normal kitchen. There were no signs that, for example, if there had been a normal robbery, they would have run with the tools. So it really led me to think that there is something else there. That there is a third person. And also the size of the person that attacked my brother. My brother would not have confronted them. My brother he had a past incident with a person that was bad in his head. I think it was in November that the guy entered the property and made some damage. But my brother, instead of confronting him, he walked away and he called the police. So, this time, why didn't he do that? My brother would never confront anybody. And even though he was very knowledgeable of judo, we were on the judo team here at the university, he was also very knowledgeable of krav maga. He didn't have time to do that. Checking the forensic report, we will see that he was traumatized. Somebody hit him on the back, on the head. So, that is probably the way, and you see the cuts of the machete. How the body was left, you will see that he was lying probably on the floor because the type of cuts were very deep cuts. So, that should be that he was lying or they were torturing him and he was lying. So, I think that these people were waiting for him and there is another person probably. Because the amount of persons that supposedly participated is not enough to put him down or they caught him off guard. So, there are a lot of mysteries there that police did not report, they are not reporting correctly. So, that's what keeping me up at the moment."

The Guzman Cruz family is asking that anyone with additional information surrounding Alex’s death contact them in Monterrey, Mexico at +52 1 81 1227 3381.
