“Wiz” Found Guilty Of Murder
posted (February 21, 2020)

37-year-old Luis Manuel Carter, the man who police charged with murder for the 2016 San Pedro shooting death of 30-year-old Dwayne Hyde, is guilty. That was the decision that Justice Colin Williams handed down today after carefully considering the case for both the prosecution and the defence.

Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell called an eyewitness to testify against Carter, who she knew as “Wizâ€￾. She told the court that at around 12:30 a.m. on July 13th, 2016, she heard someone knocking at her front door. She said that Hyde entered, and he was in a panicked state, saying that someone was after him.

According to the witness, two men arrived on separate bicycles, one of them she recognised as Carter who pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her.  He then pointed the weapon at Hyde, who grabbed it, and tried to wrestle it away from him.  They struggled, and that’s when “Wizâ€￾ shot Hyde in the abdomen.

Hyde was rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic, and later to the KHMH. He clung to life for 14 days before passing away.

In his defense, Carter gave a statement from the dock saying that he was defending himself because Hyde had a gun and a screwdriver. There was also evidence that Carter received injuries to the mouth, throat, and abdomen.

After consideration of the evidence, Justice Williams rejected Carter’s claim of self-defense. He found that based on the evidence presented, Carter was the aggressor and that the only one with a gun.

In one week’s time, the judge will decide what Carter’s sentence for this guilty verdict should be. He is being represented by attorney Simeon Sampson.
