UDP, Leadership Carousel Continues
posted (February 24, 2020)
And while the PUP showed sufficient and surplus muscle, machinery - and let's not forget, money, the UDP continues to drift embarrassingly out in the political deep - still without a consensus leader to replace the retiring Dean Barrow. the word coming out of this weekend is that Cayo North's Omar Figueroa will be the man - and this picture - taken on Saturday seemed to show broad based support. But we're told it was just picture taken at a fundraiser for St. Andrew's Primary school in Cayo - not a caucus to endorse him.

So, the political merry go round continues for the UDP - and with a National Party Council meeting coming up on Saturday - it seems any number could play. We asked two Cabinet members today who it will be:

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"Who should lead the UDP?"

Hon. Beverly Williams- Minister of State
"I don't know Jules, the delegates will decide. There is a structure for us within the party which we follow and we fully plan to have that discussion on Saturday on how we make this very important transition but one that would lead us to a fourth victory."

Jules Vasquez "Should you be in the conversation?"

Hon. Beverly Williams
"I will be in the conversation."

Jules Vasquez
"Should you be in the conversation as one of those people who could lead?"

Hon. Beverly Williams
"Why not?"

Jules Vasquez
"Who will lead the UDP into the elections. Your brother from Cayo Omar Figueroa?"

Hon. Rene Montero- Ministry of Works
"We will have a good leader. We will have a leader that will lead us to victory. That is more important. Whoever the leader is, we will unite and work together to ensure that we win victory for the fourth time."

Jules Vasquez
"A name for the next leader of the UDP."

Hon. Rene Montero
"Jules, let's leave it at that."
